This is a poem which has all the scientific names and different words, but meaning the same as Jack and Jill rhyme…
Jack and Jill
Water seeks its own level
and settles naturally at base
so the scientific must wonder
why the well was up the hill,
what the hell! let’s not bother
with the physics, best investigate
Jack sharing an essential chore
with his significant other,
bonding and practised grace
advancing domestic bliss,
but in such sensitive state,
the feminine side if you will,
it’s easy to overlook
the basic play of circumstance
and capriciousness of fate,
a pair of non-grip clogs
on new-wet slabs can dislocate
the best-intentioned lover
and as Jack started his descent,
water burdened,
his poor feet swept from under,
flailing to salvage balance
he went in haste,
momentum in the upper,
bumped stumps and lumps
of protruding waste,
the clatter of emptying vessel
dinging incremental
each rock ‘n’ roll down;
on her superior perch
Jill didn’t suppress a smirk,
contortions a personal fantasy,
but her supercilious face
was premature,
an unseen nudge (from rough justice?)
in the sacrolumbar
somersaulted her, too;
whether sent for orthopaedic repair
and life ungainly ever after
or fossilized in iconic theatre,
limbs cardinal and intermediate points,
the bucket compass rose,
is a debate parent, Jungian
and educator will take up later.
