How I can copy my computer games on a memory device?

I want to clear some space on my computer by copying the games I've finished on a memory stick (or whatever those things are called.) I have tried this, but I think it's only the shortcuts that I copied. Once I have copied the intention to remove them from my computer. Could you please help me and explain in step by step plain English. Thanks in advance.
